Six years after its 2019 debut, See is experiencing a resurgence on Apple TV+, and the bump is likely fueled by Jason Momoa’s latest project, Chief of War, which is also currently trending on the same platform.
See, the post-apocalyptic epic, which premiered alongside the launch of Apple’s streaming service in November 2019, has climbed back into Apple TV+’s Top 10 charts in over 45 countries this week. The Philippines, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, and more are seeing the series consistently hold high spots, while markets including Qatar, Brazil, and South Africa show steady multi-day placements, signaling a global rewatch trend rather than a short-lived spike. The trend, however, is limited to Apple TV+ for now — although the show is available to watch on Prime Video as well.
The series is set in a world where a virus has erased human sight. It originally gained acclaim for its ambitious world-building and Momoa’s portrayal of Baba Voss, a fierce tribal leader protecting his children, who are born with the forbidden gift of vision. While the three-season series’ Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score sits at 63%, its fan reception has remained strong after all these years, evidenced by its 84% score and 7.6/10 on IMDb. In the past week alone, See reached the #5 position in countries including Namibia, Botswana, and Saudi Arabia, with average rankings hovering in the mid-top 10 range across several more territories.
How ‘Chief of War,’ Which Is Currently Airing, Compares to ‘See’
While See thrived on a high-concept sci-fi premise set in a distant, sightless future, Chief of War grounds itself in historical drama. The latter chronicles the unification of the Hawaiian Islands in the late 18th century. Both shows leverage Jason Momoa’s commanding screen presence, but their storylines have nothing to do with each other, and their narrative engines differ sharply.
Visually and tonally, however, both shows deliver the kind of spectacle that keeps viewers coming back for more. Plus, since Chief of War is still rolling out new episodes, and only three are out at the time of writing, each episode ending has kept viewers on their toes and left them wanting more, and that’s exactly why many are turning to See to fill the gap between releases.
