‘Call the Midwife’ Season 15 Gets a Huge International Filming Update
Back in early May 2025, fans of Heidi Thomas’ long-running hospital drama Call the Midwife received the exciting news that their favorite series would be heading international. No, the midwives and nuns of Nonnatus House weren’t simply heading on a brief jolly across the Channel to France; they were heading all the way to Hong Kong in the most ambitious production feat the show has attempted yet.
As announced earlier this year, the Call the Midwife Season 15 special would be taking place both in Hong Kong and back in Poplar, with the biggest production announcement yet of the upcoming season recently made via the show’s social channels. It has now been officially confirmed that Call the Midwife‘s production block in Hong Kong has come to an end, with a joyful video accompanying the post, available to watch below. The caption on the post read:
“News! Call the Midwife filming completes in Hong Kong! We’re hitting the road! It’s been an amazing shoot here in the Far East, but now our team return to the UK to take a short break before continuing their filming for Series 14 Here are the dulcet tones of Fenella Woolgar (Sr Hilda), Linda Bassett (Nurse Crane) and Hong Kong actor Patra Au to sing us on our way! xx”
‘Call the Midwife’ Will Return This Christmas
Now as customary as giving presents and overconsuming on indulgent treats, a Call the Midwife festive special has been a regular part of millions of Christmas traditions since it began in 2012. Once again, the series will return this Christmas for another festive special, but what will it be about? “When senior members of the Nonnatus House staff head to Hong Kong on a mercy mission, the younger midwives are left to cope alone,” the synopsis begins. “As the Christmas action shifts between the sun-drenched Far East and a snowy East End, Sister Julienne suddenly finds herself excited about the Order’s future. After years of battling change, she decides to embrace it, work with it, and see what love can do.” The synopsis continues:
“This change of energy reverberates throughout series 15. The new series kicks off in 1971 with several of the ladies embracing Women’s Lib and burning their bras outside Nonnatus House. As the year unfolds, we see the team handle cases including premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis and slavery.”
Call the Midwife has finished its Hong Kong production block. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
