Firefighters tackle fire at Battersea block of flats

About 80 firefighters are tackling a fire at a block of flats in Battersea, south-west London.

The entire top floor and roof of the four-storey residential building on Maysoule Road is alight, London Brigade (LFB) says.

The building has been evacuated by fire crews wearing breathing apparatus, while firefighters have been using a large turntable ladder as a water tower to help tackle the flames from above.

Three people have been treated by paramedics at the scene; one of those has since been taken to hospital, one is being assessed, while another has been discharged.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) said it was called to the block, near the junction of Hope Street and Benham Close, shortly before 19:30 BST.

An LAS spokesperson said: “We sent resources including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team.

“This incident is ongoing and we are working alongside our emergency service partners at the scene.”

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
