A Coastal Wedding Weekend at Hotel del Coronado with Pastel Blooms and Oceanfront Elegance

Our vision for the weekend was rooted in classic coastal romance, layered with moments of color and playfulness. We chose the historic Hotel del Coronado for its timeless charm and oceanfront setting — a place that already held special meaning for us, as we spent our first dating anniversary relaxing on its beach. Returning there to celebrate felt deeply full circle. We began the weekend with a welcome dinner instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner, held directly on the Del’s main beach. The dress code was “beach chic,” setting the tone for an evening that felt festive and relaxed. We leaned into a Mexican-inspired theme as a nod to California culture and our favorite food in San Diego. Guests were greeted with margaritas and tacos on the beach amidst golden hour. Lounge chairs, string lights, fire pits, and the ocean sounds kicked off the weekend. Once the sun set, everyone gathered for s’mores wrapped in Mexican woven blankets. For the wedding day, the mood shifted into an airy, romantic coastal palette. The dress code was black tie optional with color encouraged, which brought a lively softness to the classic setting. We exchanged vows beside the Del’s iconic red turret. White and green florals layered with blush pink and soft blue accents created a ceremony landscape that felt organic to the coastline, elegant without feeling overly formal. Our reception took place in the Ocean Ballroom, with a timeless and refined design. Crisp white linens with blue plate chargers and beige-toned chairs and a dance floor kept the ballroom classic and coastal, while pastel florals added softness. A pastel pink and blue lounge, echoing the floral palette, was placed by the windows overlooking the ocean. Overall, we wanted the weekend to feel romantic, welcoming, and reflective of the setting — a celebration that balanced classic elegance with the relaxed beauty of the coast.

Donald asked me to get ready a little earlier than usual for our dinner reservation that night. On the way, he suggested we stop at Ina Coolbrith Park. I had never been there before, and when we arrived, I was surprised by how beautiful the view of the San Francisco skyline was.

While we were standing there taking it in, he proposed. It felt like a private moment just for the two of us, above the city where we first met, which made it even more special.

For fashion, I wanted a look that felt romantic and effortless. I chose an Ines Di Santo gown with delicate floral detailing and a soft silhouette that suited the coastal setting. The dress felt timeless while still light and feminine. I kept my accessories minimal with pearl drop earrings and a Cartier Love bracelet that Donald gifted me as a wedding present — a piece that felt personal and meaningful.

My bridesmaids wore soft blue dresses, a color that echoed the ocean and tied seamlessly into the overall palette.

After the reception, we continued the celebration with a DJ-led after-party and served chicken tenders and fries as a late-night snack. At the end of the night, guests left with Ghirardelli chocolates as party favors, a nod to San Francisco, where we first met.

Music and guest experience were a big priority, so we chose a live band to keep the dance floor full. The band guests onto the stage throughout the night, adding a fun, interactive energy to the celebration.

We also had a live painter creating an oil painting of our ceremony, and guests were invited to add brushstrokes during the reception, turning it into a collaborative keepsake from the night.
