A Layered, Lived-In Wedding Inspired by Nancy Meyers

This styled shoot was inspired by the timeless, lived-in charm of Nancy Meyers and Martha Stewart. To capture that feeling, we layered in texture and visual interest with antiqued pottery and rattan lampshades, votives, and placemats, all while keeping the color palette crisp and fresh. Potted herbs, hydrangeas, and matchbooks displayed in my Great Grandmother’s vintage crystal bowl added a nostalgic touch.

The color palette featured soft shades of sky blue, off-white, and sage green. These tones were thoughtfully chosen to evoke the calm, breezy feeling of the coast and to cultivate a peaceful, inviting atmosphere (a nod to our muses, Martha & Nancy). The combination of these hues added a sense of natural elegance and effortless charm to the overall design.

The styled shoot was the first shoot and third event to take place in this venue. The venue opened its doors just 4 days before the styled shoot – we planned based on renderings and approximations. The venue is the Woodland Glasshaus at Bavaria Downs and is a semi-permanent structure that is open May – October for weddings. Set beneath a canopy of trees, Woodland Glasshaus features floor-to-ceiling glass walls that invite in natural light and forest views, creating an ethereal, light-filled backdrop.

The dress, featuring a basque waist, was from the newest collection by The Law and was sourced from The White Room Minneapolis. We styled it with pearl earrings and a necklace to evoke a sense of classic, quiet luxury. Our goal was to capture a timeless “Americana” aesthetic in both the fashion and models, refined and familiar.

To create a truly bespoke look, we sourced linens, chairs, china, glassware, and flatware from five different rental companies, blending both local and national vendors, including Nuage, BBJ, Collected & Co., Linen Effects, and Apres Event & Tent. We aimed to strike a balance between grandeur and approachability, crafting a design that felt elevated yet effortless. As the first styled shoot in the space, the overall aesthetic needed to resonate with a broad range of potential clients. Ashley Fox Designs created a beautiful floral story with early Spring textures of Lotus Moon Flower, Lilac, Muscari, and Snowdrops, along with the woodland touch of Solomon’s Seal to echo the details of the tablescape and linens.

The varied seating elements, banquettes, rounds, and harvest tables with two different chair varieties give the room a level of visual interest that felt both thoughtful and inviting.

Mix & match! Mixing floral with stripes is a personal favorite combination and an (almost) foolproof way to use pattern play. Showcasing three different table “looks” also creates a level of visual interest for guests.
