Dad horrified as two-year-old son accidentally rips his own tooth out—”why”

A two-year-old boy who fell and lost a baby tooth has gone viral for the incredibly relaxed way he handled it all.

Pauly Long, 32, lives in Bali, Indonesia, and is the proud dad to baby son King—who recently tripped and hit his mouth against a chair, causing “the tooth to rip out entirely all the way from the bottom of the root.”

A content creator and online coach, Long regularly shares updates on his life and family to his TikTok account @paulylong.

He recently posted a clip of the moments after his son lost a tooth on October 11, showing the clean break, the damage to the chair where King had fallen, and the toddler casually eating a bowl of ice cubes after the accident.

Admitting the family first “went into a bit of panic” seeing King’s mouth bleeding, Long told Newsweek that “within 5 to 10 minutes everything was fine, and he was sitting on the ground eating ice cubes like nothing happened.”

“Super tough kid,” the proud dad praised his son. “Seeing him sitting there like that looking totally unfazed, it made me laugh. That’s when I decided to take that quick video and show the world what my son had just done.”

The video, which has over 11.7 million views and almost 800,000 likes, shows King’s entire tooth in Long’s hand, before panning to the wooden chair which now has an unmistakable tooth mark in it.

Long then gets his son to smile, which he does happily—and shows off the gap in his front teeth.

“Lovely, that’s great,” Long jokes. “So that’s what you’re going to look like now for the next five years, amazing.” He wrote on the video: “Like why.”

Children begin losing milk teeth and gaining their adult teeth from around the age of six, though it can differ from child to child, according to the Mayo Clinic. Usually, the bottom two front teeth fall first, followed by the two top front teeth, which is what King has lost. Most children have all their adult teeth by age 13.

TikTok users responded in a big way, with many shocked by the sheer size of the milk tooth, one asking if it was an “adult tooth” and another quizzing: “Is that a milk tooth? Is the root of a milk tooth that long?”

Others shared their own stories, with one parent recalling: “My son lost both his front teeth, it took years and then as soon as the adult ones finally came in!? Fell and busted those.”

Many suggested the family could just put the tooth back in and it could heal naturally. Luckily, the family’s doctor assured them their son will be totally fine, but will be “toothless” until his first adult tooth comes in.

“Is what it is, not something to stress about,” Long said. “Still an adorable kid!”

Long said he was surprised by the enormous reaction to his video, but as a content creator, he has had clips go viral previously, so it was “nothing new.”

Even the negative comments of “uneducated opinions,” he said, “doesn’t faze me anymore.”

He is happily focusing on his son, telling Newsweek: “He’s an awesome kid, and it amazes me how quickly he’s able to bounce back from that sort of injury.”
