Giants Tabbed ‘Likely Landing Spot’ For $130 Million 3-Time Cy Young Winner
The San Francisco Giants added Willy Adames as a huge piece to the puzzle that they hope will land them atop the National League West. After Adames, the Giants were reportedly the favorites to sign Corbin Burnes until Burnes decided to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Now the Giants could turn to a different Cy Young winner to join their rotation.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently listed the Giants as one of the top landing spots for veteran righty Max Scherzer. Scherzer will likely sign a deal similar to the one-year, $15 million deal that Justin Verlander signed with San Francisco.

“Publicly, there’s not a favorite for Max Scherzer, who has had a very quiet free agency thus far,” Miller wrote. “It probably should be a tight three-horse race between these teams, though. Teaming up with Justin Verlander again in San Francisco could also be fun. The Giants have a solid five-man rotation in place but with many injury risks/durability concerns in the bunch. Bringing on Scherzer as a sixth starter (not that he would be the No. 6 in their rotation) is probably a good idea.”
Scherzer was solid in nine starts last season. He’s been a consistent machine during his entire big league career.
If the righty can return healthy and to his former self, the Giants would be landing a steal in signing him. But they may need to outbid teams like the San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, and Cincinnati Reds if they want to bring the 40-year-old to San Francisco.
