How Venus Williams and Lacoste Brought Tenniscore to the Met Gala 2025 Red Carpet

Venus Williams nodded to her celebrated career in tennis at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday. The athlete wore a custom Lacoste look on the event’s red carpet, featuring a deep emerald green polo shirt, a high-low hemline that created a miniskirt effect in front while extending dramatically in the back, and a matching long green cape over her shoulders.

The look was designed by Lacoste’s creative director, Pelagia Kolotouros, who accompanied Williams on the event’s red carpet. “Dressing Venus Williams was a profound privilege. She is a trailblazer: a tennis legend, a fashion icon, and a powerful voice for women,” Kolotouros told WWD via email.

“With this look, we brought together the tennis codes that are central to Venus’s life and career, and to Lacoste’s heritage, and reconstructed them through the lens of traditional tailoring. Her custom Couture look centres on the sports robe, reimagined with the precision and structure of tailoring, bonded with a weather-proof membrane, embellishment, and drama that brings further texture and movement. Every detail was crafted in Paris to reflect Venus’ stature and to express, through technique and silhouette, the full extent of our savoir-faire,” the designer said.

Williams’ look was completed by platform green shoes coordinating with the outfit. She added delicate jeweled pieces in her hairdo, for extra bling.

Williams joined Lacoste as a brand ambassador in 2022 and has since been involved in various collaborations and campaigns.

The 2025 Met Gala, held Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, features the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The event highlights Black dandyism and menswear, with a “Tailored for You” dress code. Cochairs include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour.
