Malaysia cuts RON95 petrol price to RM1.99 a litre ahead of Sabah state election, Budget 2026

Malaysians will soon pay less at the pump than before, after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim cut the price of RON95 petrol to RM1.99 (S$0.61) a litre from Sep 30 – just a few weeks before he tables Budget 2026 in Parliament.

The move marks the first adjustment to the capped price of RM2.05 since February 2021, said Anwar in a statement on Monday.

The government said more than 16 million citizens will benefit from the cheaper fuel, which remains heavily subsidised compared with regional peers.
