Miu Miu SS27 turns acting royalty into sporty librarians
Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin, Noah Jupe and even Billy Elliot – it was an all-star cast on Miu Miu’s latest runway, modelling a collection that proved bookworms can be sporty too

It’s Miu Miu day! Which means there are only three days left of Paris Fashion Week’s SS27 season. For today’s show, the Italian brand returned to its usual spot inside the Palais d’Iéna, where the floor had been turned a deep purple and covered in white lines, suspiciously like a tennis court. The sporty setting started to make more sense when the first look emerged: a plaid blazer and conservative tartan skirt, contrasted by a pair of vibrant yellow trainers. It’s a look already popular in big cities – where women often wear a pair of flats on their daily commute, before slipping into something less comfortable at the office.
The consecutive looks followed the same theme: a series of prim Miu Miu librarians on their way to sports day. Tartan, plaid and checked skirts were paired with skintight lycra crop tops and trainers – think Clark Kent, if he wasn’t hiding superhuman abilities. Nerdy blazers and oversized spectacles had an air of Oxbridge bookworm about them, while tiny sports shorts and bouncy New Balance soles meant these scholars could spring into action at any moment.
Speaking of springing into action, no one expected to see Billy Elliot walk a Miu Miu show. Actor Jamie Bell, who played the ballet dancer as a young boy, made his runway debut, which was the first of many surprises. This fashion season has cemented two things about Miuccia Prada, one: she really loves skirts, and two: she really loves British TV royalty. Last season, the Italian designer enlisted British-American actor Gillian Anderson (claimed by us Brits) to walk the Miu Miu show, while this season, Academy Award winner Olivia Colman made a surprise appearance.
The 52-year-old actor walked the runway wearing a V-neck sweater and black leather skirt-suit, her wispy hair pulled into a messy ponytail. Alongside Colman, more recognisable faces appeared – all from some of this year’s biggest film and TV moments. There was Hamnet’s Noah Jupe, The Shards’ Igby Rigney (who plays Bret Easton Ellis), Katherine Waterston, who is due to appear alongside Andrew Garfield in the upcoming movie, The Uprising, and even Emma Corrin, who will play Lizzie Bennet this December in Dolly Alderton’s Pride and Prejudice. There was also an appearance from Gigi Hadid, who made her acting debut earlier this year in Mindy Kaling's Not Suitable for Work. Clearly, Mrs P is up to date with this year’s releases.
