NYC Meets Lowcountry: A Colorful Moss-Draped Barn Wedding on Kiawah Island

The vision for the wedding was NYC meets Low Country. The couple lives in NYC but still wanted to highlight the beauty of Kiawah Island. Kim of Chere Rosalie Weddings designed the reception barn with moss and green draping to mimic the South Carolina oak trees.

We met in November of 2016 at a costume party at Harvard, and despite Hannah being dressed as Miley Cyrus and Jared in an Owl onesie, it was love at first sight. We quickly became inseparable and dated throughout our time in college (known as POTOC and FLOTOC at the Owl Club fraternity), across distance as we started work, during the pandemic (where Jared graciously quarantined with Hannah’s family for months), and through career changes (we both just graduated from Columbia Business School!) before tying the knot.

Hannah wore a strapless embroidered gown by Dana Harel. She was the first bride to purchase it from Mark Ingram Atelier in NYC.

The bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses in various shades of pink. The bride’s sister, the maid of honor, wore a Carolina Herrera gown with a flowing cape down the aisle.

The groomsmen wore classic tuxes.

The oyster bar during cocktail hour was a highlight, as were the passed hors d’oeuvres.

Pops of color were added with the florals from Festoon Charleston. In shades of pink, yellow, and orange, the ceremony took place overlooking the water and featured a grand huppah. Whimsical centerpieces were a highlight in the reception barn.

Hannah and Jared loved recreating a moment from her parents’ wedding during their cake cutting.

The couple booked the venue when it was still being built. They chose it because it was between where both of their families would be coming from for the destination wedding.

Friday’s welcome party featured a fun candy bar.
