Reese Witherspoon Sharpens Her New York Corporate Look With Black Patent Slingback Pumps
Reese Witherspoon put an end-of-summer twist on corporate dressing in New York on Monday, pairing a navy skirt suit with glossy black patent slingback pumps.
The pointed style featured a cut-down vamp and slim stiletto heel, which appeared to be about a four-inch lift. A narrow strap secured the heel, exposing the sides of the foot in a sharper cut than the closed pump.

Witherspoon’s outfit played into the same language. She styled the pumps with a navy skirt suit trimmed in gold buttons, layered over a striped blouse. Angular sunglasses and a structured black tote rounded out the look. The combination leaned into her “The Morning Show” press run, where tailored sets and pointed heels remain a recurring code over the past few seasons.

The black slingback has emerged as a favored pump alternative this season. Alix Earle wore the style over the weekend at the MTV Video Music Awards, offsetting her white Tom Ford minidress with a pointed-toe pair. Michelle Williams opted for Saint Laurent’s Dune slingbacks in August for a “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” taping, while Kim Kardashian chose the house’s Vendome 110 style at the Venice Film Festival. Amal Clooney and Barbara Palvin also turned to slingback iterations in Venice, further reinforcing the silhouette’s dominance on red carpets and street style across the globe, from Prada’s classic leather iterations to animal-print versions by Betsey Johnson.
Patent finishes, in particular, have been having a moment. The finish has framed slingbacks not only as red-carpet footwear but as a functional choice for tailored daywear.
The latest season of “The Morning Show” premieres Sept. 17 on Apple TV+. Set in spring 2024, the new season delves into the fallout of the UBA-NBN newsroom merger and a media landscape unsettled by deepfakes and corporate cover-ups.
