ROSÉ returns with “new trick,” a dreamy, guitar-driven alt-pop anthem centered on resilience after heartbreak.

Dave Meyers directs its playful, nostalgic music video, filmed entirely on iPhone 18 Pro.

The release joins Apple’s ongoing “Shot on iPhone” campaign.

ROSÉ returns with “new trick,” an uptempo alt-pop and pop-rock single that trades much of the introspection of her 2024 debut album rosie for something brighter, scrappier and more playful. Co-written with frequent collaborator Amy Allen, the track layers dreamy vocals over distorted electric guitars and a brisk, propulsive rhythm, drawing from the breezy energy of ’90s romantic-comedy soundtracks and the punchier pop-punk of the early 2000s. ROSÉ has described the song as one of the “cutest” things she and Allen have made together, explaining that it emerged at a point when she found herself moving away from the sad songs that had previously defined much of her solo writing. The resulting track embraces that change of perspective, balancing sweetness with a slightly rebellious edge.

Lyrically, “new trick” begins from a familiar place of romantic disappointment before quickly reframing heartbreak as something survivable — and even a little absurd. ROSÉ considers the fragility of relationships with the observation that “love is unconditional,” only for that idealism to give way to a more determined outlook as she resolves to “pick my heart off the floor.” Rather than dwelling on loss, the chorus turns recovery into an act of attitude: its titular “new trick” becomes a metaphor for changing the way she reacts to heartache, replacing vulnerability with humor, self-possession and forward momentum. That tonal pivot gives the song much of its charm, presenting resilience not as a heavy emotional breakthrough but as an impulsive, mischievous decision to keep moving.

That playful reinvention extends into the accompanying Dave Meyers-directed music video, produced as part of Apple’s latest “Shot on iPhone” campaign and filmed entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro. Meyers builds the visual around a heightened, nostalgic coming-of-age aesthetic: ROSÉ appears in school-uniform-inspired styling alongside a vintage red sedan and a branded purple lollipop, before the video expands into colorful performance sequences with a live band inside a gymnasium. Sunlit suburban imagery, youthful styling and energetic camera movement give the clip the feel of an early-2000s teen movie pushed through a contemporary pop lens, mirroring the song’s progression from lovesickness to carefree defiance. Beyond accompanying the single, the project also serves as a showcase for the iPhone 18 Pro’s new camera system – including variable aperture control – while placing ROSÉ alongside previous “Shot on iPhone” collaborators, including Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga and The Weeknd.
