‘Sinners’ Leads Critics Choice Nominations With 17,
Nominations for the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards are being announced for both film and TV on E!
The organization unveiled four new competitive categories this year: sound, stunt design, casting and ensemble for film, along with variety series for television. Chelsea Handler returns as host for the fourth consecutive year.
Selected by roughly 575 voting members, the Critics Choice Awards tend to reflect broader industry consensus, offering a temperature check on which films have captured critical hearts and minds.
Last season proved the organization’s predictive power. “Anora” used a Critics Choice best picture win to reassert itself after being shut out at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards — momentum it carried all the way to the Academy Awards. Three acting winners — Adrien Brody, Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldaña — also repeated at the Oscars.
For the first time in its history, the CCA released an official shortlist across 11 artisan categories, spotlighting the behind-the-scenes craftspeople who created some of the year’s most acclaimed films. There is still an opportunity for “Avatar: Fire and Ash” from James Cameron to pop up in a few artisan races, and perhaps even best picture, as voters had a “write-in” option for films that didn’t screen in time for the NomCom.
The Critics Choice Awards are presented annually to honor outstanding achievements in film and television. Bob Bain Productions and Berlin Entertainment will serve as executive producers.
The 31st annual Critics Choice Awards will air live on E! on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026.
