While the word “whimsy” feels painfully overused in 2026, it's hard to know how else to describe the energy at Detour, Collina Strada’s sun-soaked, midsommar-esque SS27 show. For its most recent runway collection, the New York City-based brand took audiences on a literal detour, deciding to forgo the showspaces of Manhattan and Brooklyn for the fields of Upstate, debuting the collection at Storm King Art Center.

Located 58 miles north of the city, the 500-acre outdoor museum is a sweeping compound that contains one of the largest outdoor sculpture collections in the United States. Though the decision to host the show there definitely raised some eyebrows, it felt like a fitting choice for a brand that’s always had a focus on the environment and sustainability. “We wanted to make a show that wasn’t just hosted by a museum, but inspired by the way you experience one,” stated the show notes by creative director Hillary Taymour. “Detour is about immersing the clothes into the landscape. Bodies move through grass, steel, sky, sculpture, and each other. It’s about the paths we take, the paths we’re told to take, and what happens when you decide to go somewhere else.”

Design-wise, the path Taymour decided to take for Detour was one filled with exaggerated silhouettes, ample ruffles and soft pastels. There were plenty of sequins too, only made more visible by the strong sun bearing down as models strutted along the grassy runway. The show concluded with a surprise performance by Carly Rae Jepsen, who delighted the audience in a flowing pink Collina cape. The true highlight of the day, however, was the finale, when models came sprinting down the fields to join Jepsen for a post-show dance party. Overall, the consensus among guests seemed to be that the trip was well worth it. As it turns out, what they say really is true – sometimes you do just need to touch grass.
