Manscaped Lawn Mower Go Review: An Affordable, Travel-Ready Body Trimmer

SINCE LAUNCHING A decade ago, Manscaped has become a go-to grooming brand for me. The Manscaped Chairman Plus is always my answer when asked what the best electric razor for beginners is. The Manscaped Chairman Pro is one of the easiest-to-use razors I’ve tested. And the Manscaped Weed Whacker also stays in my Dopp kit, as it’s the best rechargeable nose hair trimmer, perfect for travel.

But where the brand really excels is with body grooming, which is why I’ve called The Lawn Mower 5.0 the best body groomer for below the belt and the best rechargeable pubic hair trimmer. So when I heard the brand was releasing a more compact, travel-friendly version in the Lawn Mower Go, I had to give it a, er, go. After using it for over a month, this is how it held up to my own personal hype.

Design and Features

The Lawn Mower Go maintains many of the features that I’ve long appreciated about the Lawn Mower 5.0. It’s 100 percent waterproof, so you can use it in the shower and cleanup is a breeze (just rinse the blades under hot water for a few seconds). There is a built-in LED light to help guide your trimming in hard-to-reach places—not to mention, if you’re like me and your vision seems to be dwindling by the day, easy-to-reach places.

Just like the Lawn Mower 5.0, the Go also has ceramic blades that are gentler on the genitals and minimize the risk of nicks. It offers the same 60 minutes of use after one charge, as well as a convenient USB-C charging port (so you can charge with the same plug that you do on your computer or phone).

New to the Go is an attached wrist strap for those—like me—who might be a bit clumsy, which is especially helpful when using the trimmer in the shower. The body of the Go is also lighter and more compact than the 5.0, while the Go’s motor is slightly less powerful.

The biggest difference, however, is in cost. The Go is less than half the cost of the 5.0 at $50, whereas the Lawn Mower runs $110. It also includes two guard combs for adjustable trimming between 3-5 mm and 7-9 mm. This is down one comb from the 5.0, whose guards range from 1.4 mm to 12 mm in total.

Effectiveness

I actually see the fewer guard lengths as a positive. Not only is it one less attachment to keep track of, but I don’t often find myself yearning to do a fade or tapered look with my body hair. A simple trim is all I’m ever after, and this device nails that.

The lighter weight and more compact build of the Go is immediately noticeable, especially when trimming my groin. I like to do a lot of my manscaping (cue the Leo pointing meme) in the shower, so having less weight to toss around helped me more easily control the device and reduce the number of times I drop it.

Whenever I lost my grip, the lighter design made the trimmer easier to control, reducing the risk of nicks and cuts and making hard-to-reach areas much easier to navigate.

The strap was also helpful here, as I learned to trust that I didn’t need to catch the device every time I lost grip because it would just gently dangle from my wrist rather than drop to the floor. The slightly less powerful motor was barely noticeable. I did have to go a tad slower when trimming really thick hair, but it was pretty minimal. Ultimately, trimming my groin with the Go took maybe one or two minutes longer than doing it with the 5.0.

Its travel-readiness is where the Go really separates itself from other Manscaped models and body groomers in general. I toss it in my carry-on or a large Dopp kit, and it barely takes up space or adds any weight to it. I love not having to pack yet another charger since it’s USB-C, which is also why the similar Manscaped The Beard Hedger is my go-to beard trimmer for travel.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy the Manscaped Lawn Mower Go?

The Lawn Mower Go delivers nearly everything I love about the Lawn Mower 5.0 in a smaller, lighter, and far more affordable package. It made trimming my groin easier to control, especially in the shower, thanks to its compact design, ceramic blades, and wrist strap that saved me from more than a few near drops.

The slightly less powerful motor added only a minute or two to my routine, which is an easy trade-off considering it costs less than half as much. If you want a travel-friendly body groomer that gets the job done without overspending, this is the one I'd buy.
