Fanning had already showcased a black sequined Simone Rocha dress and Manolo Blahnik slingback sandals with a crystal-embellished buckle for the premiere of the film “Sentimental Value” at the festival. She toned down the sparkle but kept things elegant with her look the following day, when she sat down for a special screening and reception for the film, which is directed by Joachim Trier.

The sleek Givenchy mules hail from the brand’s new creative director Sarah Burton, who was appointed in 2024 and showed her first collection for the brand in March with the much-talked-about fall 2025 presentation. The designer was previously creative director at Alexander McQueen.

This particular pair of shoes features a rounded toe, a low décolleté and a 3.7-inch curved, sculpted heel with an inward slant. Fanning donned a patent black version of the mules which picked up her black top, and both items contrasted her creased white trousers and matching blazer. Tracee Ellis Ross wore a similar shoe style from Sarah Burton’s Givenchy era, though hers was a black pump, at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival in August.

Fanning has been wearing a great deal of Givenchy lately, even modeling Burton’s first custom haute couture look at this year’s Oscars. And she showcased a pointed light green mule over the summer at San Diego Comic-Con, which the brand referred to as “spiky,” a bold shoe which added flair to a black outfit from the brand.

In terms of other Givenchy silhouettes, the luxury brand recently released its Sliced Square ballerina style.
